I would be grateful for suggestions for how best to word this phrase so it flows well inorporating both 'discipline' and 'interessi'. It is the introductory paragraph about a Greek philosopher-from a textbook.

@ lljane It was not clear from what you posted that discipline referred to a field of study, as you put it general. However, you can still use the answer and change duties to discipline

thanks for your suggestion I shall use it in part as I finally decided on /He embraces a wide range of interests and disciplines spanning from ..... as embrace+wide range of... is a common collocation which fits perfectly and describes the way most of the early philosophers worked.

The term 'exponent' is appropriate here as the term 'figura' seems to be used in this context to give the subject prominence as having contributed to several fields. 'Conflation' has the right connotation in indicating that his involvement in these different spheres merged to encapsulate his own theories and contribution. The sentence could read as follows - "He is an exponent of a conflation of interests and disciplines that span politics, astronomy, geometry..."
