I am currently translating a political text from English into Italian and I came across the expression "burnt in effigy" referring to a political leader. The phrase reads as " their leader was burnt in effigy on the streets". I am looking for an Italian equivalent and so far I only assumed that an equivalent could be "Il loro leader e' stato crocifisso per le strade", however that might be misleading.
Any help on the matter would be highly appreciated

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
