in order for a fabric to be puncture/feather proof, the thread density per square inch must be high.
In feather filled pillows, the very end of the feather (which is hard) would poke through the fabric and somebody's cheek if it was not enclosed in high density fabric. The number of threads per quare inch in fabric is usually referred to as the fabric "thread count" expensive sheets are usually 400/500 thread count, the cheap ones are 175/230 thread count.
