Strange For the very reason outlined below, it would be very strange to put dimensions on a perspective drawing. This is not normally done, particularly in a professional setting such as the one described ("un testo specialistico sul disegno geometrico")

It does help. They seem to be talking about perspective drawing, where L.T. is Linea di terra or "ground line". In perspective drawing, you don't see things in their true dimensions as things are "deformed," so you have to calculate real measurements by "bringing" lines to the ground line.

I don't think the context could help very much. It's the explanation of an exercise (Descriptive Geometry). Here one of the examples (there is more than one example in the text):

"sarà sufficiente riportare le misure (o dimensioni, n.d.t.) al vero sulla L.T."

Not "real" For example: if I draw a beam on an architectural drawing, and put the dimensions on the drawing, then of course those are the "real" dimensions and there are no other dimensions that I could have shown.

In other words, the dimensions of something on a drawing, for which the dimensions are given thereon, are always the real dimensions. For that reason it would be inappropriate, and confusing, to say "real dimensions".

My guess...we would need more context. Sometimes, drawings are deformed (eg. the vertical scale is greater than the horizontal one)...that would be a case when it's not "true to size"

Actually, from your discussion entry, I think it would be as simple as "real / true dimensions"
