Take also for yourself the finest of spices: of flowing myrrh five hundred shekels, and of fragrant cinnamon half as much, two hundred and fifty, and of fragrant cane two hundred and fifty http://www.biblebrowser.com/exodus/30-23.htm -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2010-01-11 16:48:19 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Furthermore I know checked the frequency of use (Ghits) of fragrant cinnamom and sweet cinnamom in association with bBiblic texts and actually the first is more used (8,170 vs. 3,320) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2010-01-11 16:50:38 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Biblic... :) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 16 hrs (2010-01-12 07:41:42 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Biblical *of course* I wonder I could wrote Biblic :) |

Reference: Cinnamon Reference information: I think it is sweet cinnamon - I did find a ref. where it said it was camphor ( http://www.rivistedigitali.com/Erborista/2009/3/risultatiRic... Procurati balsami pregiati: cinquecento sicli di mirra fluida, cinnamomo odoroso (canfora) la metà, cioè... ), but more seem to say it's cinnamon, even if it is via a route other than cosmetics Considerando l'ordine dato da Dio per questo "olio della Sacra Unzione", risalta all'occhio la tipica formula qualificativa dei diversi incredienti: 1. Mirra schietta (pura o vergine) 2. Cinnamomo odoroso 3. Canna odorosa 4. Cassia 5. Olio d'oliva http://www.cristianievangelici.com/Dottrina30.htm The particularly rich unguent known as the "holy oil of unction" is frequently referred to in the "priestly" sections of the Pentateuch and in Paralipomenon. Its composition is minutely prescribed in Exodus 30:23-24. Besides the regular basis of olive oil, the other ingredients mentioned are chosen myrrh, cinnamon, calamus, and cassia, all of which are to be used in stated quantities. http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/11229a.htm Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum or C. zeylanicum, also known as "true cinnamon" or Ceylon Cinnamon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinnamomum |
