Italian term or phrase: Ufficiale Sovte Capo
This is the title of a police officer taking a statement of a robbery victim. Clearly 'Sovte' is an abbreviation, but I have not been able to identify it from online searches.

Check out this site and try googling "sovrintendente capo." I think this is exactly what you're looking for.

I find references to Chief Superintendant on Italian sites, but personally I think I would prefer something like Police Chief or Chief of Police, at least for US English. I don't know if UK English uses the term Superintendant.

Whoops, sorry about the "superintendant" misspellings. That should, of course, be "superintendent."
