double dyed
pensavo anche a tie-dyed ma credo che trattandosi di due colori a chiazze forse "double dyed" e' meglio

Description: Students will learn successful pleating and bound wax resisted silk methods of shibori. Pleated silk is double dyed creating layers of colors. Cloth will be twisted as it is compressed to achieve a diamond texture effect. For bound silk, a design is created in the silk when it is bound with thread and dipped in wax and then dyed.

random dyed
maltinti literally means badly dyed, i.e. simulating dying errors. One main color, with blotches of another dye. How about random dyed?

rough-dyed
Neither double-dyed nor tie-dyed are the same as maltinti.
Double-dyed= a doppia tintura, not necessarily simulating dying errors.
Tie-dye = tintura legata, a very specific dying technique, again not used to simulate dying errors.
I just found Rough-dyed given as the English equivalent for maltinti (see links below for the same page in Italian and English version)

I think you're right - I prefer rough dyed. I'll definitely keep it mind for the future...
Thanks
