The terms "decision" and "judgment" are often interchangable. The term "judgment", under rules practice includes "decree". The term "judgment" is also used to denote the reasons which the court gives for its decision; but this is more properly denominated an "opinion".

"Ajournement" is the equivalent of a writ of Summons in England. In French law it is the document pursuant to which an action or a suit is commenced. Actions, however are in some cases commenced by 'requete' or petition. Italian translation: primo documento con cui si inizia una causa.

"il momento decisionale in senso proprio - la cosiddetta spedizione a sentenza" ("the decision-making stage properly speaking - or 'spedizione a sentenza'"), as stated in the Florence court's judgment, makes it relatively clear that it is a set expression for the judgment (as opposed to the earlier stages such as the application, defence, reply, rejoinder and so on. The image is of the case being ready for judgment ("matura per la decisione").
