Italiano term

raggruppamento temporaneo di imprese (RTI)

Da Italiano a Inglese Affari/Finanza Legale: Contratti tender
This is one option for companies wanting to bid for a tender.
The obvious translation is "temporary group of companies" and although this gets lots of Ghits, they are (at least the first dozens I looked at) all relative to Italian tenders, which makes me feel there must be a different standard phrase in EU-tender-speak, but I have failed to find it.
Any help from you tender-experts much appreciated!

Discussion

Lorraine Buckley (X) (asker) Mar 23, 2012:
Thanks to everyone but... it emerges that Italian law allows the setting up of a temporary grouping/temporary association of companies (ATI/RTI) which is NOT a consortium, in order to avoid the expense of setting up such a structure. See in Italian http://www.iusmaster.it/Appalti_e_contratti_pubblici/10._R.T... and in (poor) English http://www.smaf-legal.com/TEMPORARY-ASSOCIATION-enterprises-...

dead right, Phil - I didn't think to search with the option of 'match whole words only', as I expected to find the exact phrase and knew 'impresa' would bring x zillion hits. Thanks, anyway, points later today!
philgoddard Mar 22, 2012:
The reason why you couldn't find it in the glossary is possibly because the previous entry was misspelt "impresa".

Temporary joint venture? I came on to cancel this question as I remembered I had come across and used this phrase before . Is there a difference between this and temporary consortium (and @ Claudia I did try raggruppamento temporaneo di imprese in kudoz before posting)

Temporary grouping of companies

There are many ways to address this expression however the EEC and hence many Italian entities tend to use this litteral translation.
e.g
8. Article 24 is amended as follows:

(a) paragraphs 3 to 5 are replaced by the following:

"3. Candidates and tenderers shall submit only one application or tender. The ECB may exclude from participation any candidates/tenderers who submit a separate application or tender and who:

(a) are members of the same group of affiliated undertakings as another candidate/tenderer;

(b) are members of a temporary grouping together with other candidates/tenderers;
Example sentence:

Having regard to measure no. 1059545 of 22 December 2011, with which the Director General of Banca d’Italia, in accordance with the outcome of the tender and following approval by the control body with minutes no. 211/2011 (ref. no. 1055887/11), arrange

SMEs can directly contract with a public body (allotment), participate as a subcontractor to prime contractor (subcontracting) or associate in a temporary group of firms

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This is indeed the correct translation in an Italian context, based on a law which allows for these temporary groupings "without the expense of setting up a consortium""
