Italiano term

piegare

Da Italiano a Inglese Arte/Letteratura Giornalismo
"Per piegarla la costringono a pesanti fatiche". Does "piegarla" mean "punish" in this case? The text talks about a rebellious daughter, but I've never seen "piegare" used in this fashion.

Discussion

Agree. I thought Shera's suggestion was much better than mine :-)
hsaxton (asker) Mar 20, 2008:
Adele's response with "subdue" was perfect, but I really liked the poetic style of "break her spirit"

to subdue

the idea is to have her "bend her head" either physically or metaphorically, as an act of submission.
