Italiano term
manto
Da Italiano a Inglese
Tecnico/Meccanico
Ingegneria (generale)
I am translating a specification for the modernisation of a piston-type gasometro (gasholder/gasometer) serving a steelworks. I have three terms manto, mantello and involucro. It is unclear whether they are one and the same thing but I would like to distinguish between them if possible. I can translate involucro as shell but I am unsure how to distinguish between manto and mantello. I have searched the Internet to no avail for any sites that might help. Can anyone advise? Thanks for your help.

mantle
I believe tha tthe two are used indifferently in Italian unles you find some consistency in their use by this author. Manto o mantello is the uppermost part of the shell which my be covered with other material for added protection.

Comment: "Thanks to everyone for their contributions. I decided that, in context, mantle would fit the bill and Vittorio's explanation made sense."

mantle, plaster bond, etc.
Jean,
Ci sono diverse risposte per entrambi i termini sul Marolli, dipende dal loro contesto. Ci puo' dare un contesto per entrambi?
I only wanted to enter (I am still coping with this system) a comment, but that is not possible here like it is for TranslatorsCafe forum.

layer
Hi Jean, I'm doing a tunnel translation and they spray the walls with a "manto" of concrete, which, in context, is a layer of concrete. Just another idea.
Something went wrong...
