Sorry, but I think that in the period of time you are concerned about, the term "ovicaprines" would be more adequate because it seems to be the name of an animal in ancient times. See references in my answer.

This is a description of prehistoric Mesolithic and Neolithic sites and "ovicaprini" are included among the domesticated stocks that were reared there.
