@ philgoddard No, not yet, although that part is indeed an air intake. Do you think 'air intake side panel' might somewhat be correct ?

Asker As a native speaker, does it mean anything to you, or does it convey the same as it would to an English speaker, ie dome? Also, what kind of racing are we talking about

If the field is "open-wheel" racing such as F1, I would suggest this. It came to mind because the original is referring to the side profile of the car.
