Per me la distinzione è tra fibre e fibrille, che dovrebbe riferirsi a una differenza di tipo principalmente dimensionale (che probabilmente si riflette anche sulle proprietà delle "fibre" stesse).

Ho pensato anche a fibriole/fibrille, nel qual caso le fibriole sarebbero più piccole delle fibrille.
Forse al tuo posto chiederei al cliente, visto che si trovano pochi altri riferimenti
