Nel paesaggio montuoso dello sfondo l'occhio percepisce la *nebbiosa densità dell’atmosfera* evocata dal morbido sfumare dei contorni verso l'orizzonte.
I am not clear whether the "densità dell'atmosfera" is referring to a heavy (but definitely not leaden, it's light!) sky/clouds or similar (with 'atmosfera being a meteorological reference), or whether it relates to the "atmosphere" created around the important event of Christ's baptism...... any help in first interpreting and then translating much appreciated!
