Painting techniques
In a painting to which several artists contributed, X was credited with "alcune parti del paesaggio retrostante, nonché il *ripasso*, ancora ad olio del corpo e del volto di Cristo"
Is this 'ripasso' the 'finishing touches', defining the outlines more clearly, correcting errors or what ?
Many thanks

If the painting is the Baptism of Christ you've shown in your other question, then this simply means that he touched up the face and body in oil paints over the tempera beneath.
See this: "On close examination, the painting reveals much that has been painted or touched up over the tempera using the new technique of oil paint, the landscape, the rocks that can be seen through the brown mountain stream and much of the figure of Jesus bearing witness to the hand of Leonardo."

In your sentence this should obviously be translated as "touching up" or similar. "Finishing touches" would also be fine.

Yes, thanks, Sonia, it is the very same Baptism of Christ |
