cartoons
The literal translation does not seem to work - any ideas?

Selected
a retrospective of whose work
a retrospective of whose work is serialised in the Corriere every Monday.
A retrospective implies a view of the development of the artist over time, and thus arguably embodies the 'chronological' element too, where 'tavole' are just the illustrations, or frames thereof.
HTH :).

classic cartoons / a chronology of his cartoons
I would go with something along the line of "classic cartoons", despite the fact this is not particularly literal. The basic meaning is there and it sounds much better in English.
However, if you wanted to keep the "chronological" element, I would change the sentence around to say that "the Corriere della Sera is publishing a chronology of his cartoons every Monday.

: The chronological element is important. See: http://www.slumberland.it/contenuto.php?tipo=collana&id=51

Thanks for the link Colin :-) In this case, I'd say my second option is the better one.

I think it fits!

Chronological tables provide the dates of different events, so I think it is the right solution!

: How does this work for a cartoonist? And every Monday? // What are tables, for a cartoonist?

timeline table / timeline chart
Hi,
if you want a proper translation you shouldn't keep the term chronological as it sounds rather weird in English.
I'd go for timeline chart or timeline table.
Please note that terms like time-line and time line are accepted variation. Nonetheless timeline is most used nowadays.
Below you can find two examples, just to show how the term chronological is not used in case.
