Wanted: a more user-friendly CAT tool Iniziatore argomento: J Brandt Badger

Is there a CAT tool that is known for having an especially smooth graphical user interface? I have been trying to use OmegaT and Wordfast and have found them a bit unwieldy. Not to mention their appearance is simply less than asthetically pleasing to stare at for long periods. I would love to know if a tool exists that is known for being convenient and user-friendly (i.e. point-and-click, drag-and-drop, etc). Either free or proprietary, it would make life so much easier. Point-&-click, drag-&-drop, it's all there, in the newest incarnation of MemoQ: version 4.0, released this week.

After having used Trados/SDLX, Multitrans, and Wordfast I gave MemoQ a go and now actually enjoy using a CAT tool. Part of that is certainly the clean and intuitive interface. | | | All the new CATs look the same... | Feb 5, 2010 |
... more or less. If you take a closer look at the new versions of WF, MemoQ, Trados Studio, DVX, Transit etc., they're all basically the same, if talking about looks.
As for the way they work, I believe that's a matter of preference which was discussed in ProZ forums many, many times before. | | | Samuel Murray Paesi Bassi Local time: 22:36 Membro (2006) Da Inglese a Afrikaans + ... Your definition of user-friendly | Feb 5, 2010 |

Sounds to me that your definition of user-friendly is "must be nice to look at". Personally I find that a simpler layout is more pleasing to stare at. That is why I use WFC, because the interface is so simple. It's all one big canvas. You're not limited to working in little boxes. It is bliss.
I would love to know if a tool exists that is known for being convenient and user-friendly (i.e. point-and-click, drag-and-drop, etc).
I find it odd that you regard drag and drop and point and click to be more convenient than the alternatives. After all, your fingers spend most of their time on the keyboard, so I would think that it would be more convenient if you could do stuff without having to use the mouse at all.
WFC supports drag and drop because the entire translation interface is a single, unprotected canvas. If you want to point and click in WFC, well, all of WFC's functions can be tied to buttons or shortcuts (even multiple ones per function) that you can put on any number of custom toolbars that can float or be docked wherever you want them.
