If you check the glossary there are lots of entries for "spalmato/spalmatura" as "coating". Here it means that the coating is "spread" on just one side of the fabric as opposed to "bispalmato" which is on both sides.

in Spanish it is called "monounido", as one of my clients told me to translate this term.
