IL GRAFICO E' SEMPRE PIU' IMMEDIATO DEL TESTO SCRITTO
Quite easy to translate I know. What is causing me some confusion is the use of 'graphic' as a singular noun (in English). I have only ever used it before (I think!) as in ' the graphics are' - it sounds strange in the singular. Your comments would be much appreciated!

image is very generic; if you want to retain the more literal meaning then go with the graphical representation.

charts
I'd say a plural is much more preferable in this case. I'd use charts if we're talking about graphical representations of processed data.

Diagrams
You're absolutely right!
Although it's singular in Italian, we'd use the plural in EN.
Grafico can mean several things: graph, chart, diagram ... if unsure what it's actually referrring to (though you can probably tell from the document itself), I'd probably stick to the generic 'diagram'.
Diagrams are always ....
