This comes in a "private agreement". The three parties to the contract are listed and then it says "con l’intervento di [partner 4]".

I've got "with the participation of", but I don't really understand the difference between this fourth party and the other three. Any ideas?

Sarah: thks for the additional text. So it's definitely an obligation and therefore:.."Party 4 undertakes to ensure that Partner 1 exercises his/her rights as Partner in accordance with the terms of this agreement". OR.. (again depend. on the context)...." to ensure that the the rights conferred to Party 1 under this Agreeement can be exercised by him/her". Depends on the context and ability (for example..physically able to ...) of party 1 to exercise those rights. :-)

Sarahca: tks, I think somethign preceding the entry or anythign else in the text that remotely gives another clue would be useful. Looks to me as partner 4 has the specific duty to ensure that party 1 benefits from .. etc..... as for instance a lawyer being responsible (as per contract) for advising party 1 ..(or event voting.... in favour... or in lieu of..) etc... you know..probates etc.. . Thanks

Following up on Simon's comments, maybe partner 4 is acting in some other capacity. Could he be acting as a representative rather than an actual party to the contract?

through the agency of

"con l'intervento di" means the parties need the help of someone else for one or more specific work, etc.

It's like something extraordinary, that's why the fourth party is not included in the agreement itself.

I marked 'medium' in my confidence level beause I need more text or context. In psychology, intervention is fine (Gestaldt therapy for example) as is for in military opertions, though for business participation is as good or maybe better than intervention, depend. on the context.

I ought to say that I noted that this is a private contract and unlikely therefore to be some kind of military operation - I used the reference purely for illustration purposes etc. :-)

involvement could also imply the guarantee issue but without being too clear, just like the "intervento" in italian.
