non ammette alibi

Da Italiano a Inglese Altro Modi di dire/Massime/Proverbi journalism
I thought I might find this in the glossary/my dictionary, but no luck. I know what it means, but I just can't put my finger on the right expression.

A TV chat show host is speaking about the job:
" Essere napoletana è sempre e comunque un valore aggiunto. Forse dipende dallo spirito mediterraneo fatto di radici profonde, di fantasia, di ironia. Qualità che aiutano in una professione come quella della conduttrice, **che non ammette alibi**. Quando si accendono i riflettori sei sola, con la tua storia, il tuo volto, le tue parole davanti a una telecamera"

All help greatly appreciated!

But the stayers that abound in the Australian rock music industry are a breed apart,
who hang in there when everyone else has packed up and gone home. Some trade
their university courses or promising careers for this profession that takes no prisoners and eats its young; and choose instead to serve long apprenticeships with a harsh and unforgiving master.

From just about any perspective, the career of mezzo soprano Karen Cargill looks like that of a singer who is ambitious, knows what she wants and has the confidence, determination and sense of purpose to succeed in a competitive and demanding profession that takes no prisoners and is unforgiving of uncertainty. That resolve sees Cargill make her first major stage appearance for Scottish Opera next Wednesday when she sings the role of Rosina in Rossini's The Barber of Seville.

neutral Valentina Viganò : I like the expression but it doesn't seem coherent with the phrase. What they are saying here is that, when you're on tv, there's nowhere to hide, "non ammette alibi" refers to the profession.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This is the expression I was looking for, and Pauley's (sorry Pauley, don't know your actual name) references convinced me that it is also used to describe a profession. Thanks to all who answered! "

The sense is: you can only be yourself (see context and the following sentence)
no masks, no faking etc..
