This is the comment of a film critic about a documentary on the burning oil wells of Kuwait after the Gulf War. I think I am going to have to use "aesthetification" even if it does not appear in any dictionary. After all, film critics are renowned for making up words, right?

Aestheticization ...is actually a much-used and important term in criticism. It is generally used in a negative sense, to indicate a focus on the (a)esthetic that is morally questionable in a context where reality is harsh. It has popped up on Kudoz in the last year or so, can't remember what language, probably Fr-En.

Well,... ... apparently one can never get enough grey these days, or aestheticisation (agree on the drink(s) comment, even more so because I live very close to the Langhe, ...).
PS Is the documentary as bad as it sounds?

PS. Having seen the footage I am sure that it is grigio, refering to the grey clouds, not the black oil.

Aestheticization or aesthetization Both already exist, as a quick web search will show. Wikipedia offers a quote, and a definition, of the former related to film, as sth 'stylistically excessive'. See also,

Given your context, I wonder if 'grigio' could be a typo for 'greggio', i.e. crude oil. Black rather than grey comes to mind when thinking of a burning oil well. Just a thought.

I realize this is not particularly close literally to the original, but if this is what a German film critic shouted at a premiere then it would presumably have originally been in German, i.e. the Italian expression is itself likely to be a translation already. Also, I find it hard to imagine anyone shouting "aestheticization of the grey" in anger, even a film critic, but maybe that's just me..

Well, how about this plain and simple expression? I guess we're talking about black and white photography (in film)
