Italiano term

perdite portati a nuovo

Da Italiano a Inglese Affari/Finanza
This is a line item in the liabilities section of a balance sheet. In other contexts the item was "utili (perdite) portati a nuovo", which I have translated "retained earnings", but in this case there are two lines, one for "utili" and this one for "perdite". Thanks in advance for any help.

profits (losses) brought-forward (or carried-forward)

This refers to either accumulated losses or undistributed profits at the beginning or end of the year. If you have the previous year's financial statements and the figure thus described is the same as the one in your current statements, then its "brought-forward". If you are working on financial statements or reports, as I guess you must be, would be happy to e-mail you further terminology from quoted company statements

Best wishes

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I'd never realized how difficult it would be to choose a "preferred answer", especially when all are so similar. Anyway, thank you all and particularly Peter for the helpful explanation. I will use "losses carried forward" but I'm sticking with "retained earnings" (from last year's statements) rather than "profits carried forward". Derek"
