Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): SJLD

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

growth medium (s)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Growth_medium

I find culture medium a very confusing, if correct term, to use today, especially because of the relationship between the media and culture - cultural media :) so I prefer this very commonly used alternative.

and...
I do prefer "mediums" to "media" for that very same reason. Whether used with culture or growth. It seems I'm not the only one. Look on google and then more carefully at the links - you'll see what I mean. Mediums is only ever used in this context.

neutral Lionel_M (X) : "Growth mediums" 140 papers on Pubmed; "culture media" 117.008 ! We are talking about scientific papers .....And Latin is Latin, like English is English....some mediums should not be used

and have you looked at the "culture media" links? A great many of them deal with something very different.
disagree Gianco (X) : It maybe your preference but it is incorrect. A culture medium (i.e. Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium) or two culture media (i.e. Dulbecco's medium and RPMI 1640 medium). **Mediums** is incorrect and so is **medias** which I have also seen used.

Ah the rules of the English language.. which the Americans have often altered! It seems I am not alone in my choice. The rules of Latin grammar can change when you write English and they often do :)
agree SJLD : this is a perfectly, I repeat PERFECTLY valid answer from a native English speaker. I would use "media" however as the plural form

thanks SJLD! There's often more than one way to do something and that's what I was trying to get across.
