This was my first attempt:
The fall of the temporal power of the Church of this age was not a more conspicuous flag than change ocurring all around; but no less radical than other phenomena, such as, for example, the progressive yielding of the nobility to the bourgeois class, or rising of the proletariat or the beginning, still quite slow, of the schooling of the masses.
I have omitted translating the word "furono".
furono = theft, plunder??
Can I translate this as follows?
The fall of the temporal power of the Church of this age was neither more nor less visibly symbolic of change ocurring all around, such as, for example, the progressive yielding of the nobility to the bourgeois class, or rising of the proletariat or the beginning, still quite gradual, of the schooling of the masses.

How about this Deb?
The demise of the temporal power of the Church was no more symbolic than the various other changes taking place in society, such as the progressive submission of the the nobility to the bourgeoisie, the rise of the proletariat and the first tentative signs that education was reaching the masses.
