Il campanile su tre ordini

Da Italiano a Inglese Arte/Letteratura Architettura
Hi all,

I'm almost finished this document. Sorry for posting so many times, but I really do appreciate all the help.

I see in the Probert Dictionary that there are five orders in architecture. Could they be related to this description of a bell tower?

Mr. D, there are so many types of campanile. Is this a particular one? Is there a pic?

The bell-tower on three orders of columns

"three order of columns" implies, in ascending order from the ground, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, although in many cases, particularly in the Romanesque period, these orders are highly imaginative and not strictly classical. Nevertheless I would still say "three orders of columns".

oops, "orders" not "order" in the above note.

to cover every possible type of bell-tower and "rimanere sul generico" you could just say "The bell-tower, divided vertically into three sections".
Peer comment(s):

neutral simon tanner : yeah Tom, that's the nub of it; is it the three classical orders or just simply a more generic 'three sections'? a pic would be handy...
