Perhaps "cava" is the best word for your recess, but it appears that the bit might feature a male profile to engage with the recess of your parts (whatever they might be - rivets perhaps?), in which case it might be a "punta per cava...". I'm sure your customer will know, but I suspect you'll find him on the beach just now.

I don't think the site is relevant. The "square recess bit" is something like a 'punta per innesto cavo a sezione quadra'; the bit is a screwdriver tip, but your text refers to measurement and "chiodi". imo scanalato is too risky in the context

Can you point to the Internet reference you mentioned? More details of your application would be useful, espec. since the phrase could mean a "bit with the correct recess" rather than considering "recess bit" as a compound noun. Respect, Derek
