I\'m having a lot of trouble trying to convert a pdf file (using Acrobat 5) into a format that can be read or recognized by Trados.

Does anybody have experience with Acrobat and the Distiller?

I\'ve tried all I could think of.

Look forward to all your hints & tips!

Pili

Convert PDF to RTF Aug 16, 2002

The only possibility that I know is to convert the PDF text to the RTF text using the instruction \"Save as\". Then you have to manually \"adjust\" the resulting RTF file by cleaning all the unnecessary hard returns and other formatting features that are peculiar to Acrobat, otherwise sentences will be unnaturally truncated. It takes much time, however, particularly on very long documents.

I tried it but all pictures simply disappear! Translating the file is ok but when putting it back together the result is only text.

Do you have any other suggestion?

Acrobat and RTF files Aug 16, 2002

Frankly not. As far as I know there are no other ways of translating with Trados, or ant other CAT program, directly from Acrobat files. The only solution would be to have the original file from which the subsequent PDF file was originated.

I put this up so other people wouldn\'t pay too much for this function. Go get Gemini Solo - it\'s not perfect but better than the convert function within Acrobat

Go and use Wordfast Aug 16, 2002

Folks!

Go and use free of charge Wordfast (www.champallion.net). It is a CAT tool like Trados. Additionally, it can import from PDF into Word files in a very smooth way. No hard returns at line ends. Images won\'t be imported, but anyway what must be translated in a picture?

Of course, the imported files need attention for formatting.

What you need to download Wordfast is:

(and not champallion - it was a little typo in URL)

Tried Wordfast w/out success Nov 2, 2003

Wordfast produced hieroglyphics. Must be me doing something wrong. But what? I always had problems dealing with this program as the logic differs from what I'm used to in SDLX (which I got as a free gift yonks ago). Any step-by-step instructions available for the dimwits like me who have trouble with all this voodoo electronic stuff?
