Non-ProZ.com Mar 18, 2005:
It's written as [Mrs. xxx] comp. privato. I want to say that she may be a judge but I'm not entirely sure since it's family court and we was part of the proceedings. I've been searching case history and see this listed in similar proceedings as well (again, in family court).

In the context of the Ordinary Courts, a magistrate (magistrato "togato") is a career office where the holder performs judicial functions (of a judge or public prosecutor) over an indefinite period, appointed by means of public competitive recruitment exams, governed by the rules applying to the judiciary as a whole and with continuing remuneration. An honorary magistrate on the other hand, is appointed by recourse to special procedures and does not have a relationship with the State based on a public employment contract but rather on honorary service. The functions of the honorary magistrate are temporary in nature and the office is remunerated in a manner that varies according to the functions performed (Justice of the Peace, associated Judge, Honorary Judge of the Court, honorary Vice-Prosecutor, ** Panel Expert of the Juvenile Court)**.

Without more to go on, it seems straightforward to me.

as in compagno/company or partner; but I await a better interpretation or more context--arcane but that was my thought.

disagree Graham Reynolds : the LAST thing it can be is private company, compagnia is feminine!
