A variety of shops/businesses

Explanation:
Vielzahl must be translated as variety here and Geschaefte could mean either shops or businesses depending upon the context.

large (or vast) number

Explanation:
I second mdollman; however, if your context warrants it, you can go further and use 'large number of ' or 'vast number of' (the Langenscheid's definition). 'variety' emphasises the differences, 'numerous' emphasises the quantity

Explanation:
1) I don't agree with the word order. "zum einen" qualifies the sequel, so it belongs to "bei einer Vielzahl .....", NOT to "interessant", particularly as "die" comes in between!

2) The literal meaning of "Vielzahl" is "large number". I suppose you could sometimes also say "wide variety", but certainly not in this context, because that is expressed by "Art".

I suggest the following translation:

BADAS-ALM is of interest to all users who, on the one hand, (need to) assess the interest-rate, exchange and liquidity risks involved in a large number as well as many types of tranactions.

I am not so sure about the translation of "zum einen" - I would need to know what follows.

I hop this is helpful.

Transactions?

Explanation:
Reading your list in brackets, I have a feeling that these businesses are not shops or firms but financial transactions.

Explanation:
"numerous businesses" is your best answer. It is NOT transactions. To paraphrase your sentence it means, that
the product is interesting for all folks
who have numerous businesses (business entities), because BADAS . . . makes it
easy for them to tax/assess/... the
interest, currency, and liquidity risks,
which are connected with having numerous
businesses. Only if you do business with
overseas clients etc. currency matters,
if you take bridge loans for your businesses or extend credits to your clients interest matters etc. . . .
Transaction does not fit here, it would have to be more specific e.g. bank transactions, business transactions etc.
in order to use this term, because it
specifies more the "Vorgang" of one type
of business one transacts, but not different kinds of "Vorgaenge." They all
have to be within the same category, e.g. banking.

I hope, so early in the morning, I expressed this clear enough.

Good luck,
Lis

Explanation:
I looked in agan to see how things are going - and saw that i had made a typing error - it should be transactions (not tranactions!). Sorry!

- And still think it should be transactions - even if they result from having several businesses.

Good luck!

definitely transactions, not businesses

Explanation:
It would have been helpful to have the complete German sentence. A sentence that includes the phrase “zum einen” would, at some point or another, require a “zum anderen”.

However, be that as it may, I strongly agree with Sirius that it is transactions, not businesses. The underlying phrase is “bei Geschäften”, modified by “einer Vielzahl von”. If the reference were to businesses (i.e. different industries, physical brick-and-mortar stores, or whatever), the German would correctly have to be “für Geschäfte”. Also, in such a sweeping reference to various businesses, the German would most likely not use the word Geschäfte at all, but rahter read “für verschiedene Branchen” or something like that. Geschäfte in the sense of businesses generally only refers to physical stores, i.e. brick-and-mortar stores, i.e. Läden.

…is of interest to all users who, on the one hand, [wish to/need to] assess the interest, foreign exchange and liquidity risks that acommpany many transactions (with respect to both type and extent), [and on the other hand….]

I also wonder a bit about the placement of the phrase 'Art und Umfang'. By its placement, it modifies transactions. Logically, at least to my little mind, it would make more sense that type and extent refer to the various risks.

The other possibility is that the German is awkwardly phrased and should be s.th. like, in all kinds of transactions, irrespective of their size...

Play around with this and see how it fits in with the rest of your text. But be aware that it is transactions in this context.
