"Two new xxx satellites will be launched to replace xxx capacity and provide extensive *sparing capacity*".

I've found the following:

Sparing capacity is provided through two spotbeams of 10 transponders each to ensure maximum flexibility.

Is it of any help to understand what it means exactly (spare energy I would assume?) and how it translates into Italian?
