Hi - I have an Excel sheet where I've just discovered many of the rows have been dragged up so that they are invisible. Annoyingly, the text in these rows has not been pulled into Trados so I'm now worried my quoted deadline based on the Trados analysis will be unfeasible. The problem is, there are many lines in different places where this has happened. For example, the line numbers jump from 6 to 20, and then from 46 to 60 and so on. The problem is, there are many lines in different places where this has happened. For example, the line numbers jump from 6 to 20, and then from 46 to 60 and so on. The function of highlighting everything via Ctrl+A and selecting 'unhide rows' doesn't work.

Does anyone know a quick way to show all the rows rather than manually expanding each line? Otherwise I'll have to send the job back because it looks like this affects several hundred lines in total....

Hi all. Just to update and save people racking their brains unnecessarily, I tried highlighting everything and choosing 'Hide Rows' first, and then 'Unhide Rows'. This finally did the trick.

Hi all. I've just noticed another trick just in case anyone has this problem. Go to the Trados Filter Settings via the Start menu and choose 'Translate content from hidden rows and columns' for the Excel options. I wouldn't leave this box checked by default though just in case hidden content is not relevant for translation in future jobs... ☺

unhiding rows May 16, 2011

You need to select all rows, which might be hidden before applying 'unhide rows'.

You could do this by running the mouse down the row numbers (at the very left of the spreadsheet window) for all rows from row 1 to below the last row where you can see that rows have been hidden, keeping the mouse left button pressed all the time.

When you have done this, then click the right mouse button and select 'Unhide rows'.

This should do the trick.

It doesn't help to use 'CTRL+A' because this doesn't select the rows themselves - only the data in the rows.

I hope this helps!

Not our job May 16, 2011

I hope the above suggestion helps you but in general, if there is something wrong with the source material, it is not the translator's job to fix it.

collapsed rows May 16, 2011

Hi Michael - thanks for the reply, but as you may have already noted in my subsequent edits, I eventually managed to find out how to unhide them. Strangely, I had to 'hide all' and then 'unhide all'... It revealed an extra 20,000 words, but since the deadline is Wednesday, I was much relieved to hear they weren't translation-relevant... ☺

You could have asked your customer if the stuff was hidden by accident or because you should not translate them. Often that stuff has been translated already previously.
