Speaker details

Bio:John Moran is a researcher, software developer, agency owner and German to English technical translator specialized in IT. In the late 1990’s he began his career in translation while working as a lecturer in German translation in Trinity College Dublin, where he graduated with a distinction in Computer Science, Linguistics and German.

He worked for over a decade in Germany as a freelance software developer for companies such as Cap Gemini, Nokia Siemens Networks, Telefonica and UniCredit. He is the founder of Transpiral, a technical translation agency based in Dublin, Ireland and consults with some of the world’s largest agencies and end-buyers of translation to measurably improve translator productivity using combinations of machine translation, predictive typing and speech recognition using software called Wordface Analytics he conceived of and helped develop in partnership with Welocalize while working as a researcher with ADAPT, an Irish language technology research centre.

In the evenings he works on a long overdue PhD in computer science on the statistical analysis of user activity data gathered in CAT tools. He is a regular conference speaker on the topic of how computational linguistic technologies impact on translators.
