seasonal and part-seasonal pitches

Hi Umberto,

I would translate "piazzola" with "pitch" - here's a couple of UK examples:

Part seasonal pitches are available on request. Caravan Hire ... Washroom -- with shower, toilet and washbasin (extra facilities on our campsite) ...

www.campinginuk.com/Ciuk wales4.htm

Campsite Description "In the Lake District National Park" ... Part Seasonal Pitch - Autumn. £650.00. Motorhome stop-off (per unit) £5.00 ...

and another:

and Caravanning Club both offer seasonal and part seasonal pitches on some (not all) ... 5 star campsite. SUPERSAVERS off peak reductions from £39.95 ...

spots (places) for season and mid-season use, spots for seasonal and semi-seasonal use

Hi Ubmerto,

It sounds to me that "piazzole" stands for specifically designed areas where you can put up yout tent. I think pitch is more related to the ground type rather than to its purpose. That is why spot would fit better in my opinion, I have used this meaning as an inspiration:

"spot - a point located with respect to surface features of some region; "this is a nice spot for a picnic" "

I hope it helps! :)

grazie, Gianni, hai preso lo "spot" giusto nel mio cuore :)
neutral awilliams : a pitch *is* where you put up your tent//with all due respect, it's a little rude to assume I have never been camping

You can put up your tent on a pitch, I'd rather find the right spot on the pitch to put up mine! *If* you have been on a camping you would know what I mean :) Hence my example: "this is a nice spot for a picnic"
neutral writeaway : pitch here is used as Amy indicates. you are quoting the meaning of the word in a different context./probably before you even started studying it

writeaway, I am sorry, but since when do you speak italian? Piazzola means a lay-by in English, and a lay-by means "designated paved area beside a main road where cars can stop temporarily", a pitch is not usually paved as far as I am concerned...
