Termine o frase Italiano: diffusori amplificati
In the context of very fancy sound equipment - speakers, to be precise - this phrase is used quite often. Some examples:

I subwoofer amplificati sono ottimizzati per estendere le prestazioni dei diffusori amplificati ...

XXXX è riuscito a realizzare una linea di diffusori amplificati che suonano come non avevo mai visto e sentito ...

There's "amplificati" everything in this text: subs, woofers, casse, diffusori, etc. "Diffusori amplificati" gets a lot of google hits in Italian, though I still don't know what they'd be called in English.

I'm thinking of "high-performance (loud)speakers" because it doesn't seem to be a specific term of art, but a Kudozian will certainly have better ideas! Thanks!

I don't think "amplified" is wrong, but most usually I've seen them called this way - see for instance:

or:

BTW, in Italian, we use "diffusori attivi" too.

Aside from the fact that I dislike "amplified speakers" from the point of view of euphony and clarity, here's the "google poll," FWIW:

active speakers: 164,000
amplified speakers: 104,000
active loudspeakers: 51,600
amplified loudspeakers: 2,820

Thanks Alfredo!

Wendell I truly think it's a case of "Italian redundancy"
technically, subwoofers are amplifiers also, I think they are trying to "pretty things up" romance language style and refer to the "system" as high gi at the same time :o)

Richiedente: Ay yi yi. Am I totally off base here? Diffusori are amplifiers? I'm fairly sure not - so hi-fi speakers?

neutrale  Alfredo Tutino: in Italian, an "amplificatore" is a purely electrical device; "casse," "diffusori," etc are electro-acoustic devices used to convert electric signals into sound - i.e. speakers

I'm no expert in this area but a "diffusore" is a speaker. See the images.
