I think iron is a red herring. In construction steel is used and opere in ferro would mean metal work/steelwork in the general sense, as described in the brochure below

iron fittings /fixtures

many examples on the net. Personally I prefer fittings unless we are are speaking of light fixtures and furnishing accessories
