hi, This is a presentation letter for a scholar applying for a bursary award. Could it mean sphere of influence? thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Ho seguito il lavoro del dr. Francucci quando era borsista della Fondazione di Studi di Storia dell’Arte Roberto Longhi per l’anno  accademico 2006-2007. Nell’occasione ha svolto con ottimi risultati una ricerca sul pittore abruzzese (ma attivo a Roma nella cerchia di Mola) Giovanni Battista Boncori, che è stata parzialmente pubblicata sulla rivista “Proporzioni” edita dalla Fondazione.

accordo  S E (X): "Circle" is right -- "school" would mean something different. "In the circle" of implies "influenced by" whereas "in the school of" implies "followers of". (One can be in influenced by an artist without being a follower of that artist.)
