A technical text is a report on an experience Mar 1, 2018

Technical texts are written by people who invested their hearts and minds in producing what they see as potential to improve the quality of people's life. They're not just a biased critique of something their author(s) have no experience with. When translating you get to know the team/individual in their finest light. No, not particularly… Mar 1, 2018

… but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. According to Wikipedia “Having knowledge of both the linguistic features as well as the aesthetic features of translation applies directly to the field of technical translation.”

Thank you Vuka.
I agree and really like this analysis.
But maybe what you say is almost exclusively directed to medical and/or legal translations.
Maybe.

Ciao,
Susanna

Lack of creativity and perhaps some beauty? Mar 1, 2018

I sometimes feel a lack of creativity and a lack of some sense of beauty, yes.

In the past I translated various books about health, omeopathy, womens' health and also some novels.
Well, now I am especially translating istructions manuals and technical devices and, to be sincere, I miss that dimension of beauty and personal interest. (Womens' health rather than packing machines, for example).

My point of view

Legal translations, to me, is a beautiful world.
But unfortunately I am not an expert

Motivation Mar 1, 2018

And other than "linguistic beauty", I could also ask:
Do you actually find a real motivation leading you towards and through the technical field?

This is an ancient issue, to me.
And I actually have no concrete answers.

That's why I greatly appreciate your opinions

Sort of

I would call the act of technical translation an 'art,' not so much something in which 'beauty' per se can be found.

"The art of technical translation is to break down sentences, which can be intrinsically difficult to understand because of their very complex and detailed content, and the information they contain into their basic component elements, and present the meaning and intent in a form that can be understood, preferably, to as many people as possible

If you can find 'beauty' in what I just wrote, then you should try your hand at technical translation, if you haven't already.
