Hi Martine,
Actually, the very same error message was discussed this morning, in this thread.
Create a copy of the document, and use the Tw4winClean.Main macro to clean up the file. Note Jerzy's comment regarding the missing update of your TM this way.

If you just need to get the file cleaned quick so you can deliver it to the client, use the tw4WinClean macro instead of the corresponding Workbench function.
To do that, open the document in question using Word (no need to run Translator's Workbench at this point), click Tools->Macro->Macros and select "tw4WinClean.Main" from the list. Then click "Run" and watch your document get cleaned.

You may have to repeat this for any headers and footers as well as text boxes in the document, but the macro method will allow you to clean it up, even if it's a bit cumbersome.
Also, you might want to try the "Repair Document" function in the Trados menu before cleaning. Sometimes an open segment will cause the kind of problems you describe. And make sure your TM is always reorganized.

Another way is... | Dec 1, 2003 |
Save the document as an .rtf file then clean the .rtf file. For some reason that works OK.
Sometimes when I do that, and then open up the resulting (cleaned) .rtf file, the cursor will not move in the file. In that case, use the Edit menu to select ALL and then COPY and PASTE to a new file. In extreme cases I have to re-start Windows to get Word back to its senses, but not usually.

I believe the TM is updated with the segments with this method, but I'll be checking out the referenced thread as well to know another way to handle this.
