I have received an IDML file with hidden layers only once, it was a multilingual file and a separate layer was created for each language. I was asked to translate only the visible layer but I see that it is not possible to import only the visible layer, CafeTran imports all layers. There are no import settings to specify which layers to import.

I know that both SDL Trados Studio 2009 and MemoQ have some good import settings, if you don't want to import hidden/locked layers you can achieve that with the settings. I would like to see more detailed import settings in CafeTran as well.

Does CafeTran support IDML files exported from both InDesign CS5 and 5.5? AFAIR, some CAT tools failed to import 5.5 versions and then tweaked their IDML filters.

I support this RFE!

Import of IDML from CS 5.5 works fine Jan 16, 2012

I've imported some large IDML files, created with CS 5.5, 2 weeks ago. Import worked fine!

Currently, CafeTran imports all layers, so you need to omit the segments from a hidden layer during translation. I will treat excluding hidden layers from import as RFE for the next update. Thanks for pointing this out.

No issues with InDesign CS 5.5 files have been reported so far.

Clipboard workflow for hidden layers Dec 28, 2012

Hello,

It is not possible yet to omit hidden layers using the internal CT's idml filter, but I think the clipboard workflow may solve this issue. Of course, you would need to have Adobe InDesign installed for this kind of translation.
