Powwow in Cambridge: 12:00pm Oct 20, 2012
Nine years ago we had a Trados demonstration from Alison Riddell (who came over from Germany to join us) but, last year, several people were still unfamiliar with CAT tools, so I am suggesting that anyone with the appropriate software on their laptop(s) might like to volunteer a short demonstration - but only for part of the Powwow.

A tip: at the last London Powwow we discovered a glitch in the Powwow notifications (which site staff will correct in due course). In order to receive e-mail notifications about this Powwow, registering is not sufficient; you need to go to this forum page: http://www.proz.com/topic/230519 and tick the E-mail tracking box on the right hand side.

Trados demonstration | Aug 9, 2012 |
Hi Russell,
I would be happy to make a demonstration about SDL Trados Studio 2011, but when is the Cambridge Powwow scheduled for?
Thank you

Hi Fausto It would be great if you think it is worth the trouble to come to Cambridge. We can expect a fairly cosy setting with 20 attendees if we are lucky. Rather than an in-depth training session though, I had in mind demonstrations of perhaps 2 or 3 different systems for 10 or 15 minutes each, just to give non-users a flavour of what they can do - and leave time for general discussion / networking / eating.

Hello Russell - thank you for the invite - I'm afraid I can't make it this year (chorus calls... you know how it is!). Hope it goes well. All the best, Laura.

It would be great to meet up with any other French/English translators out there. Mary
Unfortunately I'll be in the US then for a conference, but great to see another powwow organised. Mark

I understand Laura; Doug Harrington's coaching session is not to be missed!
Hope you can make it back to your Alma Mater Rachel; look forward to meeting a fellow APU graduate.
Confession: this is really to keep the Powwow on the Home Page.

Numbers seem to be down on last year, but there's time yet - and if most of those registered confirm, then it should still be worth going ahead.
I have confirmed with the Fort St George; they offered us the riverside room (which we used 10 years ago and has been refurbished since last year) but unless numbers increase substantially, I think the Snug will be fine.

I should welcome any comments on the format. Does my suggestion of short CAT tool demonstrations appeal and are there any volunteers? I have just acquired a laptop, but don't yet have Office or Wordfast on it - and I'm a very basic user in any case. I'll see what I can do though if there is any enthusiasm for it and no other offers. ▲ Collapse

Hi Russell,
I would be interested in seeing how they work in practice. But only for a few minutes!

Russell Jones Regno Unito Local time: 21:45 Da Italiano a Inglese Fort St George | Oct 19, 2012 |
I get the impression that most, if not all, those attending are local to Cambridge.
If anyone is not familiar with the Fort St George, however, it is not the easiest place to find or reach. You have to walk across Midsummer Common or along the river - from Victoria Avenue - or cross the footbridge - from the corner of Pretoria Road and Ayleston Road (off Chesterton Road). If anyone would like more detailed advice - on parking or anything else - please ask here or send me... See more I get the impression that most, if not all, those attending are local to Cambridge.
