The optical fibers will be fabricated from glass of high optical purity i.e. silica glass, produced by the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method.
The glass fiber will be covered by layers of plastic coatings (primary-secondary coating), which will provide the necessary protection to the fiber surface.
The manufacturer will supply to OTE the complete geometrical, mechanical and transmission characteristics of the fibers used.
2.1.1 Geometrical characteristics of optical fibers
The geometrical characteristics of the optical fibers used are shown in the following table.

The manufacturer will provide OTE with fiber test certificates demonstrating that the characteristics of the optical fibers are consistent with the table below.

Each fiber will be covered by an individual jacket with appropriate color labeling, indicating each of the paths (transmission, reception). In case the individual jacket and the common external jacket are integrated into one, the path labeling will appear on the external jacket.
Alternative double cable structures may be acceptable provided they fulfill the requirements of sections 3.4 to 3.11.
