I am a language professional with some 15 years of experience in the Canadian Public Service, namely at the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) and Royal Military College Saint-Jean. I grew up in a bilingual family in Quebec, Canada, and did part of my schooling in English. I also had the opportunity of studying one year abroad in Sardinia, Italy (1993-1994), and have been passionate about languages since. I initially studied Literature and French Studies at the undergraduate and graduate levels and later specialized in Translation at the graduate level and through professional development courses with Canadian leaders in the field of translation (Ordre des traducteurs du Québec and Magistrad). Working as an Assistant to IRB) Members at the IRB (2005-2007) allowed me to learn from this humanitarian, international and legal context where I proofread decisions on refugee status in both English and French. I then moved on to translation and editing at Royal Military College Saint-Jean, one of the two Canadian Military Colleges. I seek to expand my experience and forge professional relationships through a positive contribution to the global translation community. |
