Testo originale - Inglese Transcreation refers to the process of taking a message created in one language and conveying it in another. This definition is synonymous with translation; so, what is the difference? Transcreation is a transformation of an overall message which addresses not only written content but also visual design and imagery. Transcreation takes into account the cultural context of a written communication such as an ad, brochure or website. The process requires looking holistically at a message and adapting it to the target audience, while keeping core design elements in place in order to maintain brand consistency and high level messaging between national markets.
Why is it important?
Transcreation is a relatively new term which was coined by the advertising, entertainment and language industries, and has become more well-known only in the past decade. Its origin explains why it refers to translation of marketing material specifically. Marketing material is unique from other translation material because many times it contains elements unique to a culture. Those elements include ideas, puns, cultural references, layout preferences, imagery, coloring, and connotation. There is a lot of nuance and creativity that go into creating marketing pieces, and as the name suggests, transcreation stresses adaptation of all of these elements to make a message meaningful to a particular audience: trans+creation=”across” creation, or “beyond” creation. Creation across borders or beyond borders if you will.
During the process of transcreation the transcreationist may choose to restructure how information is presented in order to make the inherent message of the marketing piece more relevant to the target audience. The original content in the source language is used as a foundation for the transcreated version in another language. Transcreation is similar to asking someone to rewrite something you have written but in their own words. In this case, the words are in a different language and the writer reconstructs the message emphasizing those facts that are most important to a reader in the target language.
A well-known example of transcreation is the Spider-Man comic transcreated for India, in which the American character is re-created as a young Indian boy named Pavitr Prabhakar (A play on Peter Parker). All the elements of the original narrative were also recreated for an Indian context. In the image to the left you can see even his Spider-man suit was altered to fit with cultural tastes and norms.
What content should be transcreated?
Transcreation services are commonly used for adapting website and advertising content. For common marketing communications, transcreation may include adjusting content for an oversea’s market on your company’s website, so that it includes only the types of products your company sells in that market. You may also choose to emphasize product features that resonate more with the needs or tastes of the target market. For example, low-power usage may be of particular importance in markets where electricity is expensive; therefore, you may choose to emphasize that feature more in your marketing and advertising copy than you would in North America, where electrical power is still relatively cheap.

Questa definizione è sinonimo di traduzione; di conseguenza, qual è la differenza? La transcreazione è la trasformazione di un messaggio globale che prende in considerazione non solo i contenuti scritti, ma anche l’aspetto visivo e l’immagine. Perché è importante?
Transcreazione è un termine relativamente nuovo, che è stato coniato dall’industria pubblicitaria, dell’intrattenimento e dei servizi linguistici ed è diventato più conosciuto solo negli ultimi dieci anni. La sua origine spiega perché si riferisce alla traduzione di materiale specifico di marketing. Quello di marketing è diverso da altri materiali di traduzione perché molte volte contiene elementi specifici di una cultura. Questi ultimi includono idee, giochi di parole, riferimenti culturali, preferenze di layout, immagini, colori e significati. Ci sono molte sfumature e molta creatività che concorrono a creare strumenti di marketing e, come suggerisce il nome, transcreazione sottolinea l'adeguamento di tutti questi elementi per rendere un messaggio significativo per un pubblico particolare: trans + creazione = «attraverso» la creazione, oppure «oltre» la creazione. Creazione al di là delle frontiere o al di là dei confini, se vogliamo.
Durante il processo di transcreazione il transcreationist può scegliere di ristrutturare il modo in cui le informazioni sono presentate in modo da rendere il messaggio intrinseco allo strumento di marketing più rilevante per il target di riferimento. Il contenuto originale nella lingua fonte viene utilizzato come base per la versione modificata in un'altra lingua. La transcreazione è simile al chiedere a qualcuno di riscrivere qualcosa che è stato scritto, ma con parole proprie. In questo caso, le parole sono in una lingua diversa e l’autore ricostruisce il messaggio sottolineando quei fatti che sono più importanti per il lettore della lingua di destinazione.
Un esempio ben noto di transcreazione è il fumetto di Spider-Man adattato per l'India, in cui il personaggio americano viene ricreato come un giovane ragazzo indiano di nome Pavitr Prabhakar (Un gioco di parole con Peter Parker). Tutti gli elementi della narrazione originale sono stati ricreati in funzione del contesto indiano. Nell'immagine a sinistra potete vedere che anche la sua tuta da Spider-man è stata modificata per adattarsi ai gusti e alle norme culturali.
Quali contenuti dovrebbero essere transcreati?
I servizi di transcreazione sono comunemente utilizzati per l'adeguamento di un sito web e dei contenuti pubblicitari. Per le comunicazioni di marketing più semplici, la transcreazione può comprendere l’adattamento dei contenuti del sito web di un’azienda sul mercato internazionale, in maniera che esso includa solo i tipi di prodotti venduti da questa in tale mercato. Si può anche scegliere di enfatizzare le caratteristiche del prodotto più coerenti alle esigenze o gusti del mercato di riferimento. Ad esempio, l'uso della bassa potenza potrebbe essere di particolare importanza nei mercati in cui l'elettricità è costosa. Pertanto, si può scegliere di sottolineare la caratteristica che, dal punto di vista del marketing e della pubblicità, è più coerente, rispetto a cosa si sceglierebbe in Nord America, dove l'energia elettrica è ancora relativamente a buon mercato.
