I film di questa linea sono collocati nel passato, ma un passato da sempre circondato da un’aura di magia: quello degli esploratori inglesi di fine ‘800 inizio ‘900. I riferimenti letterali possono andare da Kipling a Verne, quelli cinematografici da Indiana Jones alla “saga della mummia”, ma solo per le ambientazioni e non per il contenuti di action.
Un mondo che saremo dunque liberi di costruire in modo originale, senza preoccuparci troppo della veridicità storica e geografica. In altre parole: un mondo verosimile, ma fantastico e anche poetico, che useremo come metafora di comportamenti assolutamente contemporanei. Il tono del racconto sarà fresco e leggermente ironico, da commedia sofistica inglese.
Regista
Il regista che cerchiamo dovrà dunque riuscire a costruire questo mondo in modo credibile contribuendo con la sua personale visione a renderlo più originale e magico. Dovrà essere in grado di gestire una produzione importante sia perché composta da più soggetti sia perché è collocata in location non usuali. Ma non basta, oltre a raccontare ambienti suggestivi, dovrà anche essere in grado di valorizzare la recitazione, riuscendo a definire in pochi secondi la personalità dell’esploratore e quella della piccola guida con ritmi e tempi da comedy brillante.
Quindi potrà essere anche un regista di cinema, visto che proprio di piccoli film si tratta, ma in questo caso dovrà avere piena padronanza dei tempi “pubblicitari”.
Casting
- L’attore principale è il nostro esploratore. Un inglese d’altri tempi che ci serve però come testimone, suo malgrado negativo, di comportamenti attuali. L’attore che lo interpreterà dovrà dunque essere credibile nel ruolo di un “eroe” positivo che ha molta fiducia in sé (anche troppa), ma dovrà anche possedere una vena humor per sostenere in modo leggero l’evoluzione negativa che ogni volta gli toccherà subire alla fine del film. Il risultato dovrà essere un personaggio che nonostante le disavventure, riconquista ogni volta credibilità con molto savoir faire. Considerando, inoltre, che le parti di dialogo sono ridotte al minimo e che i suoi pensieri ci arrivano tramite la voice over che può essere doppiata, è possibilissimo che l’interprete sia proprio un anglosassone.
- L’altro personaggio importante è la giovane guida. C’immaginiamo un ragazzino (16-18 anni circa) sveglio e simpatico che, nonostante la sua giovane età appare sempre a suo agio in tutte le situazione. Il suo atteggiamento è di rispetto verso il “sir”, ma con le sue espressioni non può nascondere una certa dose d’ironia nei confronti delle sue disattenzioni e imprudenze. La sua etnia dovrà essere indiana o comunque esotica, deve sembrare “uno del posto”.
- Ultimo tra i personaggi, ma non meno importante, è l’uomo Reale che è la rappresentazione in scena del brand. Il suo aspetto dovrà essere quindi piacevole, credibile e rassicurante. Dovrà essere in grado di commentare ogni volta le scene con un filo d’ironia riportandole ai tempi attuali e traendo le conclusioni. In questo modo spiegherà anche il ruolo di Reale Mutua Assicurazioni che è quello di partner nella protezione dei clienti nella vita di ogni giorno.
La sua età è di circa 35 anni. Lui, probabilmente, dovrebbe essere italiano, visto che parla direttamente in camera.
Location
Le location potranno essere luoghi anche diversi nel mondo, a seconda dei soggetti, potranno essere ricostruite (in tutto o in parte) o reali, quello che conta è che ci facciano “viaggiare” con l’immaginazione e siamo spettacolari. Quindi, come abbiamo sottolineato nell’introduzione, non è importante la coerenza geografica o storica, ma la capacità della location (insieme a tutti gli altri aspetti cinematrografici) di portarci per qualche secondo in un mondo fantastico e magico, dove tutto al suo interno appare però verosimile e coerente.

The films in this line are set in the past, in a time forever surrounded by a magical aura: the time of the English explorers, between the late 1800s and early 1900s. Our literature references take us back to Kipling and Verne, while our cinematic ones recall Indiana Jones and The Mummy, for their atmosphere rather than their action content.
We’ll be free to build this world as we please, without worrying too much about staying truthful to history or geography. Which is to say, this will be a credible world and yet one that is fantastic, poetic even, that we will use as a metaphor to describe altogether contemporary behaviour. The tone of the storytelling will be fresh and ironical, not far from the tone of the English comedy where characters find themselves in difficult situations and they manage to find humour in their misfortune (dark comedy, kitchen-sink drama, social comedy...).
The director
We’re looking for a director who will be capable of building this world in a way that is credible and who can offer their personal vision to make it more original and more magical. They must be able to manage an important production, consisting of many executions and set in unusual locations. They must be able to convey the atmosphere of these settings, and be very skilled at directing actors, managing to define in few seconds every character, such as the explorer and the young guide, with the pace and timing of the best comedy.
Therefore, given that we’re dealing with short films, they could well be a cinema director, but will need to fully master “advertising” timescales.
The cast
The main character is the explorer. An Englishman from another era, desperately hapless, that we’ll use as a witness of modern behaviour. The actor who will play this part must be credible in the role of the positive hero, full of self confidence (maybe too much), but possessing a streak of humour to bear the negative outcomes he will suffer at the end of each film with a light attitude. The result will be a character that, despite his misadventures, manages to regain his credibility every time through his impressive savoir-faire. Given that his dialogue is minimal and his thoughts are told by the voiceover that can be dubbed, it is very possible that this actor be British.
The other major character is the young guide. We imagine him as a 16-18-year boy, smart and funny who, despite his youth, looks at ease in every situation. He respects the “sir” but cannot conceal in his facial expressions a certain mockery of his distracted ways and lack of caution. He should be Indian or somehow “exotic”, he must look like a local.
Last of the characters, but no less important, is the “Reale man” who is the visual representation of the brand. He must have a pleasant, credible and reassuring look. He must be able to comment on all the scenes with a hint of irony, bringing them forward to modern times and therefore drawing his conclusions. In doing this he will also explain the role of Reale Mutua Assicurazioni which is a partner in protecting its clients in their everyday life. He must be around 35. He should probably be Italian, because he needs to speak to the camera.
Location
Locations could be different places around the world, depending on the individual executions. They could be recreated (totally or partially) or real. What matters is that they are truly spectacular and allow our imagination to wander. So, as we said in the introduction, historical and geographical consistence is not important. What really matters is the power of these locations (together with all the other filmic elements) to take us for few seconds to this fantastic and magical world, where everything appears true and consistent.
