Thanks for your good work and the suggestions about translating "insertion voltage drop." I had comments from a few other of the 19 translators working on this project that they could not find a definition of this phrase in the English technical references. It appears your idea helped them. The reason why you could not find a definition of the phrase is, as I explained, it is a new expression invented and used by me and others who began to develop products using this technology beginning around 2006. My company invented the industry-first, patented StepVolt(tm) technology that sets insertion voltage in steps from 1 to 2.5 volts to optimize the tradeoff between available loop power and wireless communication bandwidth.

By the way the Siemens project manager in charge of the market introduction of the Sitrans AW210 thought of the word "Anschlussspannungsabfall" for the German translation.
