As I said before, every time this question is asked, and it has been asked several times, I wonder if anyone has been sued or knows of any cases where a translator was sued. From this you could rightly infer that I do not have professional liability insurance. Anyway, I haven't had any complaints from my customers for a long time (since I hired a proofreader)...

I have a package that covers a range of things like theft, fire and computer problems, and includes indemnity liability.

It would almost certainly not cover one of the ridiculous clauses I have just refused to sign, so perhaps there is not so much point if that is the way the market is going.

However, the insurance pack is not expensive and accidents do happen - I have heard of a colleague who was very grateful for prompt help when her computer crashed.

One of my favourite agencies was very unhappy about some expensive brochures that had to be reprinted because of a comparatively trivial translator error. Not my work, but I have caught errors at the last minute in my own translations… You can say the proofreader should have caught it, but it was actually the translator who made the mistake.

That is why I have indemnity insurance too.

In addition to that, as I always said in all other occurences of this question, it's giving money away to the insurance companies for absolutely no purpose. You can search the history of insurance claims in the entire world, and there will likely be zero claims approved for whatever this type of insurance may cover.
