The options seem fairly daft, to be honest! If only 24 hours was a short deadline! I've often agreed to deadlines within a couple of hours, and fairly often get 'ASAP' deadlines, which I can sometimes turn around within an hour, depending on volumes, obviously!

It depends on a project volume. It would be less than 24 hours, but I chose other. I sometimes get urgent requests with a couple of words by e-mail and reply them in a minute or even several seconds after I receive these messages. For sure, they are regular orderers and expect "minute-replies" without prior agreements.

Although I have done "less than a minute" turnaround like Takako, even for those two-word emergencies, I would really like to have a night's break between translating and doing the final check before sending off the text. It's amazing the mistakes we are capable of including when we do things in such a hurry. I'm a firm believer in the "sleep on it" adage.

I used to do a lot of smaller jobs, sometimes within the hour.
I can allow myself to refuse rush bits and pieces now - I have plenty of longer jobs with deadlines set according to an average of 3,000 words/day (5 days a week)

My favourite time even for short assignments is 48 hours this way I can finish jobs I decided to do today, translate new assignment on the next day and proofread it day after.
However with regular clients and short easy jobs it may be less than 1 hour (however usually in case of such jobs I agree to deliver by EOB).

I often take short translations, for example 1-2 pages, to be done in 15-30 minutes.

Although I don't actually recall when or what it was. Who keeps tabs on this sort of thing? Not me.
I work in several fields so as soon as one job is finished it is exactly that - finished, over and done with, and time to start the next translation.
I cant remember half of the stuff I did last week, never mind anything else...

if all the circumstances are all right, i.e. good pay, easy text and reliable client.
Given the 24 hours as "shortest deadline" in this poll, this time of period is now semi-standard for anything up to 3000 words.

One of my regular and most reliable clients called me and said:
I am sorry, but this client of ours needED this translation YESTERDAY, can you do it please?
So I was given 6 hours.
Now, the "real deadline" for me was 6 hours, but officially it was yesterday!
my client and I had a good laugh anyway.

One of my clients was given about one hour only to translate/review/proofread a 200-word text. They called me and asked if I would agree to do it. The text was pretty straightforward, from ES into FR. I took it and deliverded it just in time ! The fun came when they sent me the PO... but I managed to get a higher rate than they wanted me to accept (+3cts).

The fastest and hardest I've had to work was a translation of a PowerPoint presentation (about 6000 words, if memory serves) within 13 hours on a day when I'd already worked 4 hours on another project. I charged a rush fee, of course. Also, I agreed to the project with the caveat that the client had to accept the translation "as is" (since there was no time for my usual quality control).
