Arabic to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature

Hi everyone,

I 'm working on a Sudanese text and was wondering what this means. I know that هامة means vermin, but I wasn't aware that there could be vermin in the sky too?
Does it mean something like worms and insects?
Or would rats and some other flying creature work better? (crows?)

وقال إنه سوف يقتلها ويقطع لحمها ويطعمه لهوام الأرض والسماء ...
